CHEER (Christian Home Educators Encouragement and Resources) is a
completely lay-driven ministry, located out of Perimeter Church in Duluth,
Georgia, whose mission it is to support homeschool families spiritually,
academically, and socially. Were a Christian organization with a Statement of
Faith. It is our goal to offer events that will equip parents to raise Godly
children, to draw our families together, and to ultimately draw them nearer to
God and to serve Him. CHEER ministers to a variety of people in a variety of
ways. CHEER has been supporting homeschoolers in North Fulton, Fulton, Gwinnett,
Forsyth and Dekalb Counties for almost 20 years. Through CHEER, God is building
bridges from the church to individual homeschool families within the surrounding
community and providing a community for them. CHEER ministers to the homeschool
community by providing:
- A Community for Homeschool Families: School children have a sense of community in their schools. CHEER gives homeschooling families a sense of community outside of just their own home, church and neighborhood, a community that helps them to grow spiritually, as well as academically. CHEER has been growing yearly, and currently has about 185 families representing about 60 different churches in the area. We even have a CHEER yearbook.
- Educational Opportunities for Children: The Bible says, A student is not above his teacher and CHEER gives students an opportunity to learn from others in their particular areas of interest and expertise. CHEER provides a variety of educational opportunities for enriching the education of homeschool children through Monthly Enrichment Day Classes, Weekly Co-op Classes, Science Fair, Geography Fair, Spelling Bee, Kindergarten Clubs, Field Trips, Track, etc.
- Spiritual Growth and Encouragement: Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today (Heb. 13:3). CHEER provides daily encouragement through the relationships with other homeschool Moms that share their same struggles and challenges. CHEER also has Quarterly Moms Talks with testimonies, speakers, and prayer time; Annual Moms retreat; Weekly Co-op Bible Study; Prayer requests over the email loop, and Prayer Meetings, all of which significantly impact the spiritual growth of those involved and encourage them in their homeschooling journey. It is our prayer this year that the Dads in CHEER will begin to disciple and encourage one another as well. We are having our first ever Mens Retreat, just for CHEER Dads.
- Support for the Moms: As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. (Proverbs 27:17) Monthly Moms Support Group Meetings where you can fellowship with other homeschooling Moms and discuss problems and get advice; CHEER email loop where you can ask questions and receive answers from numerous experienced homeschool Moms, CHEER Website, Moms Mentoring Program, etc.
- Many Social Activities for Families: CHEER offers frequent opportunities to socialize at all educational opportunities, weekly Park Days, Beginning of the Year Party, Father-Daughter Dance, Father-Son Adventure, Mother-Daughter Tea, End of Year Graduation Ceremony, etc. (Note: having more families enables you to more easily find friends who have kids your own kids ages).
- Serving Opportunities: CHEER supports UNITEs effort to bring families from many churches together to serve the community. Of the 60+ churches currently involved in CHEER, about half are UNITE churches. CHEER currently serves at Rainbow Village, World Relief Fund, and Food drives.
